Step away from the therapist manual and into the moment. This experiential workshop focuses improv techniques to help you connect more authentically with clients, navigate the unexpected, and rediscover the joy in your work.
Mark Beaurgard, LCAT, RDT-BCT is a licensed creative arts therapist, registered drama therapist and board-certified trainer, and certified practitioner and trainer in Rehearsals for Growth. He is the founder and supervising clinician of Beauregard Creative Arts Therapy PLLC, a group private practice in NYC. Mark has over twenty-five years of experience in mental health working with people of all ages and backgrounds across a wide variety of settings such as inpatient and outpatient mental health settings, school settings, community-based organizations, corporate and nonprofit training, and private practice. Mark is on the faculty of NYU, is a published author, and presents and provides training nationally and internationally. Clinical focuses include gender and sexuality affirming care, trauma-informed care, and therapeutic improv.
This presentation is appropriate for: clinical professionals, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers.
OBJECTIVES: After this workshop, you will be able to:
1. Describe the :Yes, And” Principle: Explain how improv principles can be used to meet treatment goals and increase relational attunement.
2. Identify 4 Change Mechanisms: Define how spontaneity, risk-taking, co-creation, and presence enhance mental health outcomes.
3. Apply Clinical Tools: Identify three improvisational exercises that can be used safely to foster vitality and connection in various clinical settings.
4. Navigate Role Shifts: Discuss strategies for managing the transition from the playful space back to the clinical expert role while maintaining authenticity.
