Clarifying the Path: Continuum of Care for Adults in Mental Health Treatment

This presentation will focus on the uses and benefits of a continuum of treatment services in supporting adults with mental health challenges. The presenter will highlight research focused on the efficacy of a continuum-based model of care and discuss how evidence informs this practice.


Shanna Meyer, MA, LCMHC, MT-BC; Senior Director of Clinical Services, Trivium New England.

Shanna received her Master’s degree in Expressive Therapies and Mental Health Counseling, with a specialization in music therapy, from Lesley University. She holds licensure as a clinical mental health counselor in Vermont and Massachusetts and is a board certified music therapist. Shanna’s past clinical work focused on treating adolescents with complex trauma in alternative school and residential settings. This work inspired her to pursue a post-graduate certificate in post-traumatic stress studies at The Trauma Center in Brookline, MA.


This presentation is appropriate for: clinical professionals, psychologists, therapists, counselors, and social workers.

OBJECTIVES: After this in-person workshop, you will be able to: 

  1. Define serious mental illness and various aspects of a therapeutic continuum of care.

  2. Understand the continuum of care and how it can support individuals with mental illness.

  3. State evidence and best practices pertaining to continuum-based mental health services for adults.

  4. Express an understanding of therapeutic services that may be indicated for individuals with severe mental illness.
